Coach Brewer has been involved in the development of lacrosse in the Northern Virginia area for more than 30 years. Beginning in 1981, Brewer volunteered to be the head coach of the McLean Lacrosse Club at McLean High School. Then in 1982, he approached McLean Youth about sponsorship for a high school level club lacrosse team. MYI approved his request and from 1982 to 1986, Brewer served as both head coach and program director. He developed both a varsity and junior program with as many as 60 boys playing lacrosse each season.
Under his leadership and direction MYI Lacrosse became one of the most successful youth lacrosse programs in the Northern Virginia Area.
In 1988 Brewer became the first lacrosse coach at Fairfax High School. After a one win and twelve loss season in '88, Brewer directed the Rebels to their one and only division championship in 1990, with a record of 12-3. Despite a 12-loss season in '88, Brewer finished his tenure at Fairfax with a record of 36 wins and 34 losses.
In 1995 Brewer took over the head job at Langley replacing long-time coach, John Dodd.
In his first season as head coach he guided the Saxons to the Northern Region final on the way to a 12-5 season.
In his seventeen years at Langley, Brewer has compiled a record of 224-62 with 8 district championships, 9 visits to the final four, five regional final appearances and three State Championships! In 2009 Brewer led the Saxons to their first Northern Region Championship and then on June 7, 2009 Langley captured the ultimate prize by winning the Virginia State Boys High School Lacrosse Championship.
In 2010 Brewer's Langley Saxon's repeated the feat by claiming the State title again by defeating Loudoun Valley 12-5. This past season the Saxons claimed a "three-peat" by defeating Chantilly 17-8.
Along the way Brewer has coached numerous All Met players along with 7 high school All-Americans. Brewer has also been named coach of the year in the Liberty District in 1997, 98, 99, 2004 and 2011. In 2007 Brewer also served as the coach for the Under Armour Underclassman Team and will again coach the Washington Under Armour team in the 2012 tournament.
He also received the Northern Region/US Lacrosse Coaches Association's "Man of the Year" Award in 2004 and again in 2005. In 2009 Brewer was honored by the Washington Post as the All MET Boys High School Lacrosse "Coach of the Year." In 2011 Brewer was named Northern Region "Coach of the Year."
Brewer's Langley team has also been the subject of a Washington Post.com series called "The Season" which followed players and coaches throughout the 2010 spring season.
Brewer has also been very active in the development of lacrosse off the field in the Northern Virginia area as a member of the VHSL State Lacrosse Championship Committee, The Tewaartaton Award Committee and as a member of the NFHS Boys' Lacrosse Rules Committee.
